Hello 2017, Hello New Wardrobe!

By Amanda Cohen on January 16, 2017

Whether you like it or not, 2017 is finally upon us (I am personally very happy for a new year after some of the monstrosities that occurred in 2016 … but, that’s a story for a different day). Many wonderful “perks” come along with the New Year — fulfilling your New Year’s resolution, having a fresh start in school, or maybe this is the year of your wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc.

Even though the quizzes I took while procrastinating my midterms told me I would find my true love in 2017, I think that they meant my fashion true love. So, I began my journey with some comprehensive fashion research. Here are the coolest fashion trends of 2017!

Denim Skirts: I honestly was so shocked to see the volume of jean skirts on every single online shopping website. I thought jean skirts were a thing of the past, but I guess not. However, the one difference between 2017 denim skirts and early 2000s denim skirts is that 2017 denim skirts are cooler and more creative and offer more variety.

The variety of skirts includes scalloped skirts, light-washed, dark-washed, asymmetric skirts, flowy, tight, mid-length, and mini-length. My personal favorites are the light-washed scalloped denim skirts that button in the front!

Over-the-Knee Boots: Over-the-knee boots have taken over the world (okay, maybe not the entire world, but definitely the fashion world). The boots come in suede and leather as well as a variety of colors — black, burgundy, camel, grey, charcoal, and more! The best part about these boots is that, since they are on the brink of fashion, all shoe companies are hopping on the over-the-knee train and making their own boots, many of them at very affordable prices.

You can wear these boots with jeans, leather pants, skirts, and dresses … there are truly endless possibilities.

Bodysuits: I honestly thought that the bodysuit trend would come to an abrupt end after 2015, but this is definitely not the case. Bodysuits are now more popular than ever and designers are now making bodysuits of all different styles, colors, materials, shapes, seasons, etc.

Bodysuits used to only come in a lace-up style, but we have finally deviated from this and have begun to find cooler, more trendy and less generic styles. I love bodysuits because they are comfortable and they are easy to tuck into whatever bottoms you decide to wear while wearing the body suit (it looks very clean-cut).

Plump, Kylie Jenner Lips: I am aware that this is not a clothing trend, but plump lips have definitely become a necessity for all young female adults (thank you, Kylie Jenner, for setting the bar so high). The best part of this trend is that it has finally deviated from the simple red lip color that we all know and (sometimes) love.

Lip plumper and various lipsticks already came in all different colors, but they are finally being used by young adults (you can even rock some grey-purple lipstick … you do you, girl)! If you want the best of the best, buy the Kylie Lip Kit; you honestly cannot go wrong with this purchase. Also, I recommend using both lip-liner and lipstick when making your lips plump and vivacious.

Suede Shorts and Skirts: Suede is back, ladies and gentlemen, so it is time for you to hop on the suede-train and travel with the trend. I seriously haven’t seen so much suede (other than on shoes) in a while, and that’s saying a lot because I online shop multiple times a day. The best part about suede is you can dress it up or down and you can pair suede shorts and skirts with simply a cotton top if you are going for a more comfortable look.

My personal favorite are suede drawstring shorts (I have one pair and I’m looking to buy another pair … but don’t tell my parents)! You can also pair a trendy bodysuit with suede shorts and skirts for a clean, more “night-out” look.
